A LIFE

Jordan Baumeister

Jordan Baumeister was a standout student-athlete at Drexel Hill Middle School. A multi-sport athlete, he excelled at wrestling and and was an Inter-County Wrestling League Champion as a member of the Drexel Hill Raiders. His talent, character, and drive led him to The Haverford School, where he enrolled in ninth grade, and quickly rose to prominence for his prowess on the wrestling mat. Jordan was a 4 year Varsity starter, a 4 time place-winner in the Pennsylvania Independent School Wrestling Tournament, and a National Prep all-American. During this time, the team won 3 out of 4 state titles, and Jordan's contribution to the program was a major factor in each of them. Jordan's impact on the Haverford community went far beyond wrestling, and he was an active participant in all areas of school life. Jordan articulated his love of Haverford on his Senior yearbook page: "Haverford now holds a much larger place in my heart. The feeling of pride and community this school builds is unlike anywhere else I have ever been. In Haverford, you form bonds with both the students and teachers. There have been many occasions when I was walking down the hall, only to receive a greeting, with my name included, from a teacher that I never had before. It really gives you the feeling that you belong here and are somehow vital to this community. Haverford has left an outstanding mark on me, one that I will keep for the rest of my life." Jordan earned a scholarship to Ursinus College, where he continued his studies and earned a starting spot on the wrestling team his freshman year. He was diagnosed with cancer during his sophomore year, a disease he fought twice into remission. Jordan took an internship at the NBC-TV affiliate in Philadelphia, and rose to be a production assistant. At the age of 25, Jordan lost his battle with cancer and passed away on January 16, 2012.
